Beginnings

wide_church.jpg

The community of Smokey Point was little more than a wide spot on the road back in the early ˜50's when a group of believers gathered at the local Grange Hall to launch a new church. Over the next decade the fellowship constructed their own building and affiliated with the Christian & Missionary Alliance. The church, although quite small through the years, was marked by a genuine love for the Lord and each other. The prayer of the church was, and continues to be, that God would use us to be a lighthouse to our community. street_view_chapel_constriction.jpg

Growth
In the mid-1980's we began to transition to a contemporary-style of ministry. Growth soon necessitated building, and a 550 seat multi-purpose meeting area was constructed. Meanwhile, a weekly "Investigator Service" was launched as the church stepped up its efforts to reach the community. By 1992, many Sundays the church was ministering to nearly 1000 people. As our growth continued, but facilities didn't, in order to minister to as many people as possible, we began offering three similar worship services on Sunday mornings early in 1999. A two-story classroom/office addition was completed in January of 1999, a similar second building was finished in the Fall of 2000. Presently we have purchased 37 acres a couple of miles south of our present location and are planning to use that property to share the gospel with even more people in the future.

Setting
Smokey Point is located just off of I-5, less than one hour north of Seattle. It is the point where dairy farms and Boeing meet. This rural setting is rapidly changing as the recent construction of numerous banks, housing developments, restaurants and retail stores verify that Smokey Point is a growing area. The recent Navy Family Complex and the home port of the USS Abraham Lincoln nearby have also brought growth, activity and opportunities to the area.

Twenty minutes to the west lies the pleasant shoreline of the Puget Sound and a few miles to the east rise the majestic Cascade Mountains. Hiking, skiing, water sports, fishing, camping, scuba diving and numerous other recreational opportunities literally surround the area.

The Bigger Family
SPCC is part of the Christian & Missionary Alliance. The C&MA family provides an excellent blend of denominational support without losing local individuality. It's mission statement reads "The C&MA exists to know Jesus Christ, exalt Him as Savior, Sanctifier, Healer, and Coming King; and complete His Great Commission." Since it's beginning in New York in 1887, the Alliance has grown to over 2.5 million worldwide with ministries in 56 countries. You can find more information regarding the C&MA here.
