More on Politics

As pastors, we aren't supposed to endorse candidates. It's part of what we are held to by the government, and I think this is wise. But...

...that does not mean we should be silent. I read two blogs today that pointed out useful things, and they were in some ways related to Steve's message this last weekend on judging.

This one is like the"remove the plank to see the speck" idea...and more.

http://www.desiringgod.org/Blog/1366_practicing_p [...]

Ok. I admit it. It has been FAR TOO LONG since there has been a post to this blog. It's been a busy summer for us all. But here is a stab at an entry to get this rolling again. If nothing else, it will get some blood flowing for some...

Nearly every weekday, I go to Taco Bell for lunch with the guys. And they have a TV there. I don't have network TV at home, so I was mesmerised by the map showing all the airplanes in the air at one time following a gl [...]

Tonight in Jim's sermon on Romans 5:12-21 we hit a passage of scripture that became precious to me a few years ago. While this is a fairly complicated passage of scripture, it is nonetheless worth digging into.

As John Piper once said, "If you rake, all you get are leaves. But if you dig, you just might find diamonds." This has been my experience with this passage. Jim did an excellent job of explaining the core concept: our main issue is not th [...]

This past weekend, Tim talked in the message about how a proper understanding of the wrath of God is necessary for an appropriate understanding of the love of God. Today I was reading an exerpt from a sermon by 16th century preacher Jonathan Edwards entitled "The Excellency of Christ" . Here is what he said...

"There meet in Jesus Christ, infinite justice and infinite grace.

"As Christ is a divine person, he is infinitely holy and ju [...]

I post this article not to brag on our church. Ok, maybe I do. But while many of you know the story, many of you do not. Read the last sentence in this article from the Arlington Times.

This is just a shining example of the kind of initiative-taking we want to see happening all throughout SPCC as we share the love of Jesus with others.
I've been preparing for facilitating the Financial Peace University course coming up on May 28. I was checking out a few things on Dave Ramsey's website, and ran accross this inspiring story about a guy who just had his power turned off.
On The Road Again

Having made it through two weeks of running with no problems other than sore muscles, my achilles has started flaring up again: DRAT! (So much for my brilliant self-diagnosis on the Statin drug)

So, I took the last week off and will give it another whirl today or tomorrow. Maybe I'll have to try running a bit slower, if that's even physically possible. I think they call that "walking fast."

At least it looks like I will finally have the opportunity to run i [...]

I read this blog today about a church plant that had their trailer (with all their stuff in it for church services) stolen. The short of the story is that they posted billboards around their community with some interesting sayings. I found the following one funny but pointed at the same time. Clever.

CHURCH TRAILER THEIVES:

You just robbed God.

Yesterday marked the first time I ran outside since last September. It was nice to be running in the fresh air again. Although the pace was slow, I was able to chug my way around my 6 1/2 mile route in Marysville. Tomorrow morning's 4:30 AM run will be the true test of my commitment. It's supposed to be raining. After battling achilles tendon issues for seven months (I believe due to side effects from taking a Statin drug for my cholesterol), it was finally nice to do more than just w [...]

A friend of mine sent me this video link today.

"Jesus Wept." That one is in there. John 11:35. But "Jesus was keeled over, laughing" is not there. And oh how I wish it was. I thought about this further this weekend during Jim's Easter message.

I often hear people talk about God having a sense of humor. I suppose it is possible, but it has always been a bit of an exegetical stretch to me to see that in scripture. Mark Driscoll preached a sermon on humor , and while it made several assertions that God has a s [...]
