The Joy of Imputation-- Video

Posted by Bryan in videotheology

A few years ago, God led me to a deeper understanding of one of the most precious truths of the bible. It's a theological concept known as imputation. It's the double-truth that in Christ, God (1) takes away sin and (2) provides a righteousness. This video I ran accross today by R.C. Sproul, while dated, contains an excelent explanation of this timeless and precious truth from Romans 5.

I first thought I was watching an old "Welcome Back Cotter" episode....

Amazing Truth amazingly exposited.

He must be a professional or something...

I think it IS elementary in at least two ways.

1) The way the chalk in the video makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck just like when I was in elementary school in Mrs. Knapp's class...

...and (more seriously)...

2) I think our intelligence is insulting on issues like this. We can get so tied up on marginal things but this is at the heart of the gospel. If we really understand our deep wretchedness outside of God working the very thing Dr. Sproul is addressing here, we simply won't see an understanding of this doctrine (and the cross) as necessary or as precious...and it is both. If God is just and then justifies the ungodly, how can he be called just? The cross is how. And God is even more glorious because of this amazing plan to save sinners.

Glory to God!

If we started having Jim speak in a living room setting I would be able to understand such deep functional theology. I love how he calls it "elementary"!
