Missions and Being MissionalPosted by Bryan in missions |
|
One of our Governing Board members sent me this link today. In it, the article refers to the need to move our thinking about missions from something we do in sending teams and money to places around the world (where it IS needed) to also include thinking "missoinally" about our local communities.
I had the priveledge of attending a conference a couple of years ago that addressed this very thing. Ed Stetzer , John Piper , Mark Driscoll , Tim Keller and Matt Chandler were all there to talk about this very idea of agressively spreading the gospel not just accross the world, but also accross the street. And unlike 20 or so years ago, the culture is now "post-Christian" and not familar with the gospel. They may hear things about Jesus, and the Religious Right, but they don't know the story of how Jesus can set them free...or even their need to be set free.
As we move into Missions Week, my hope is that what we start this week will have momentum to carry us into a prepetual missional attitude.
