Sorry for the long delay in getting to this third section of our discussion on pain and God’s sovereignty. As I said, I was away in the Philippines for three weeks and am just now getting back up to speed. Well, “speed” may not be the most accurate term. But, lets say I’m getting started again and with a new set of responsibilities and schedules in my new role on staff here at church...

In my first article on this subject, I asked that we look at things from a scriptural perspective. Let me heartily echo Aaron's statement regarding the importance of knowing what scripture meant to its original readers. We do need to understand context; historical, cultural and literary, before we can understand what God meant it to say to the original hearers.

 

 

The questions raised by pain and what God is in control of are really part of a larger issue of theology referred to as God's sovereignty or providence. There are differing doctrinal positions on this issue. Most of you will have strong feelings one way or another as we talk about these things. Personally, I am not very interested in discussing doctrine based upon what we think or feel. Rather, I would like us to respond to what God's Word has to say on the topic.

With summer around the corner, it won't be long until our routines are disrupted. School is out. The sun is out. There are vacations to take. Things get turned upside down for awhile. How do we keep our faith right side up in the midst of these temporary disruptions?
