Last night was the second night of Financial Peace University here at the church. We have about 90+ folks enrolled. This morning, one of my friends who is also taking the class sent me this link with the following picture in it...

Hope When Money is Tight

I've been preparing for facilitating the Financial Peace University course coming up on May 28. I was checking out a few things on Dave Ramsey's website, and ran accross this inspiring story about a guy who just had his power turned off. Dave gave him some great counsel that may be good for you or someone you know. If you are interested in taking the class, email me at bryan@spcc-cma.org . We have over 60 folks signed up now and have a little room for some more. Childcare space is v [...]

When Someone Steals Your Church

I read this blog today about a church plant that had their trailer (with all their stuff in it for church services) stolen. The short of the story is that they posted billboards around their community with some interesting sayings. I found the following one funny but pointed at the same time. Clever.

CHURCH TRAILER THEIVES:

You just robbed God. I wouldn’t worry about the cops.

Others on the site are a little over the top for m [...]

Giving Stats for 2007

I've spent some time this week getting ready for the annual meeting this weekend. In doing so, there are some interesting statistics that lead me to want to say thank you to almost two hundred homes.

There are a little over 1500 households in our church. And 10% of them (about 170) gave 70% of last year's general fund budget. My stats don't tell me who you are, but I am thankful to God for your partnership in our vision to see people in this community and around [...]

A True Story about selling posessions

Here's a story from a member of our church family about their own struggle with deciding to sell possessions rather than allowing them to become an idol.

Every year I feel my relationship with God grow deeper. As that relationship with God evolves, all aspects of my personal life are affected. I think differently, I see and hear things differently and I feel things differently. As my relationship with him grows, I start to receive clarity in differ [...]

Never Too Old to...

Having turned 37 last month, and doing a little math on (1) what my age will be when my kids graduate from High School (47 for the oldest and 55 for the youngest) and (2) the fact that when my parents were my age I was 15, I began to sense a bit of dispair coming. But God graciously sent me some encouragement...

The first was thing was a sermon by John Piper on "Growing Old to the Glory of God."

http://www.desiringgod.org/ResourceLibrary/ConferenceMe [...]
