On The Road Again

Having made it through two weeks of running with no problems other than sore muscles, my achilles has started flaring up again: DRAT! (So much for my brilliant self-diagnosis on the Statin drug)

So, I took the last week off and will give it another whirl today or tomorrow. Maybe I'll have to try running a bit slower, if that's even physically possible. I think they call that "walking fast."

At least it looks like I will finally have the opportunity to run i [...]

Back On The Road Again

Yesterday marked the first time I ran outside since last September. It was nice to be running in the fresh air again. Although the pace was slow, I was able to chug my way around my 6 1/2 mile route in Marysville. Tomorrow morning's 4:30 AM run will be the true test of my commitment. It's supposed to be raining. After battling achilles tendon issues for seven months (I believe due to side effects from taking a Statin drug for my cholesterol), it was finally nice to do more than just w [...]

A True Story about selling posessions

Here's a story from a member of our church family about their own struggle with deciding to sell possessions rather than allowing them to become an idol.

Every year I feel my relationship with God grow deeper. As that relationship with God evolves, all aspects of my personal life are affected. I think differently, I see and hear things differently and I feel things differently. As my relationship with him grows, I start to receive clarity in differ [...]

You Can't Have Your Cake and Eat it Too

This English proverb has often confused people. If you eat your cake, aren't you "having" it? The intended meaning makes more sense to our modern ears if
we switch some of the wording around to, "You can't eat your cake and have it too!" Obviously once you've eaten your cake, you won't have it anymore. This proverb is meant to express the impossibility of having something both ways; if those ways conflict.

We'll be talking about this in more [...]

Perspectives on Pain - Part 3

Sorry for the long delay in getting to this third section of our discussion on pain and God’s sovereignty. As I said, I was away in the Philippines for three weeks and am just now getting back up to speed. Well, “speed” may not be the most accurate term. But, lets say I’m getting started again and with a new set of responsibilities and schedules in my new role on staff here at church...
Anyways, it’s about time that I finished what we got start [...]

In my first article on this subject, I asked that we look at things from a scriptural perspective. Let me heartily echo Aaron's statement regarding the importance of knowing what scripture meant to its original readers. We do need to understand context; historical, cultural and literary, before we can understand what God meant it to say to the original hearers.

Having said that, h [...]
