			<description>This English proverb has often confused people. If you eat your cake, aren&amp;#39;t you &amp;quot;having&amp;quot; it? The intended meaning makes more sense to our modern ears if  &lt;p&gt; we switch some of the wording around to, &amp;quot;You can&amp;#39;t eat your cake and have it too!&amp;quot; Obviously once you&amp;#39;ve eaten your cake, you won&amp;#39;t have it anymore.
