Missions and Being Missional

 One of our Governing Board members sent me this link today. In it, the article refers to the need to move our thinking about missions from something we do in sending teams and money to places around the world (where it IS needed) to also include thinking "missoinally" about our local communities.

 I had the priveledge of attending a conference a couple of years ago that addressed this very thing. Ed Stetzer , John Piper , Mark Driscoll , Tim K [...]

The Best Mechanic Ever

Ok, this is just plain kooky. A friend of mine purchased a used vehicle about six months ago. It's been working great until today...the day before his wife has a medical procedure early tomorrow morning. To top it off, their heater stopped working in their home within the hour of the car not starting...

They have a backup plan. A portable heater and electric blankets are getting them through tonight. And they have a second vehicle for two, but they ha [...]

Mission Reflections

With Missions Emphasis Week just around the corner, I've been plowing along trying to get everthing ready. There is a lot to do, and this is reflective of the substantial chunk of missions work we do here.

 I've been working to consolidate the lists of people and missionaries we support through the Smokey Point Missions Fund. There are several. I've been poking around on the CMA website and found some inspiring video links there. I've been [...]

Not American Idol

Ok, I confess that from time to time I like to watch American Idol. I wish it had a different name, but whatever. What does drive me crazy is how cruel and mocking the judges can be to people who are genuine. (Granted, there are some folks who are too aloof of themselves for their own good.) In this case, it would appear that this is going to be another one of those embarrassing moments.

It's not American Idol, but it's European equivalent. And I [...]

The Joy of Imputation-- Video

A few years ago, God led me to a deeper understanding of one of the most precious truths of the bible. It's a theological concept known as imputation. It's the double-truth that in Christ, God (1) takes away sin and (2) provides a righteousness. This video I ran accross today by R.C. Sproul, while dated, contains an excelent explanation of this timeless and precious truth from Romans 5.

{youtube}IapqqQ45Q4w{/youtube}

Thinking and Reading

Over the last couple months I've read some really good books. Well, good for me anyways. I've been on a bit of a quest...a reality check if you will. The question I have posed to myself is this...

There is no doubt that since becoming a Christian I have seen change in my life. I used to cuss like a trucker and while viewed by many peers as a "nice guy", I was deeply self-centered and manipulative. The question I posed to myself a short time back was t [...]
